Here are some of the questions we get asked most frequently when someone is considering a place at Sherwood House.

Where can I find information about funding?

Age Concern and Adult Social Services are great places to find information(Link Age Concern to https://www.ageuk.org.uk)(Link Adult Social Services to https://www.medway.gov.uk/adultsocialcare) 

If my loved one is paying privately, will you move them once their money runs out?

No, we will negotiate a new fee with the local authority.

Can I take my loved one out?

Yes of course. We will incorporate this into an individualized care plan which is person centred for them.

What are your visiting times?

You are more than welcome to come any time, though we would ask you to avoid lunch between 12-1 as this is a protected time. You can of course book to come in for lunch and eat with us.

What activities do you do?

We have an activities team that completes group activities and 1-1’s that prefer not to participate within a group, planned activities in the community, outside entertainers – Elvis, use of interactive OMI machine, cooking, movie nights etc.

Can they still attend their clubs?

Yes. A personal care plan/risk assessment will be put in place for this.

Do you have a hairdresser and chiropodist?

Yes, or you can take your loved one to their own hairdresser if they prefer.

Can we bring animals in?

Yes, they are always welcome and all the residents enjoy having animals in the building. We have regular visits from Guinea pigs and staff dogs and have birds in our aviary.

Do you provide end-of-life care?

Yes, our GP will assess and provide any required medication and our district nurses provide support.

Can I be involved with the care plan?

We encourage you to be involved in your loved one’s care plan and our care coordinator will involve you and your loved one to ensure that the plan is bespoke to their requirements.

Can my loved one visit or view the home before deciding where they want to live?

Yes, you’re more than welcome to come as many times as you like before making your final decision. We encourage this as it promotes independence and freedom of choice.
